SHOW NOTES
0:00 Welcome to the show. We take a minute to thank you and hear audio greetings from my daughter Nora (the groundings will commence immediately), Pat Williams from Guerilla HR, and Lisa Haneberg from Management Craft. This is all about having fun and learning something at the same time.
4:30 Please welcome Dan Bobinski, who is a contributor to Management Issues as well as his own man. We’re talking about Interviewing and Screening employees and why it’s so difficult. I do a lot of things well, this ain’t one of them, but apparently I’m not alone.
9:00 We talk about the 6 step process for interviewing and selecting employees. You can get a copy of the booklet by emailing Dan or going to his website. It starts with knowing what you’re looking for.
14:20 Get the word out in the right place, which is seldom the newspaper.
16:40 Use the phone to screen applicants before interviewing. We talk about Behavior-Based Questioning. This is not as easy as it sounds gang.
21:20 Is it easier to hire from within or outsiders? There’s good and bad but maybe that’s just me
25:10 Use screening tools- judiciously. There are plenty of assessments out there. Of course, if everyone used these I’d never have a job….and I’m not kidding.
29:00 Now comes the face-to-face. One interview isn’t enough- it’s like getting married after the first date.
31:25 For resources, try the small-business press.
Inc.Magazine is a good one
Here’s to another year of weasel-hunting.

Wayne, please don’t ground Nora! I thought what she said was great!
If you decide to podcast on parenting teenagers I’ll be your first regular listener.
“Don’t let the weasels get you down” could be a good tag line for both podcasts!
