I told you last week about a new webcourse called “The 90 Day Leadership Challenge” led by Bob Lauridsen. Well I’m signed up for it, and wanted to give you more details as the first session starts February 11th and you’d best sign up soon if you’re going to join me.
“Managers must start with their own thinking in order to change the thinking of their people and get new behavior” (David Rock, “Quiet Leadership”).
Now that we’re connected via some amazing technology we need to leverage that ability to be in communication by improving our competencies in the area of relating or, as Bob Lauridsen says, interacting. There is a great quote by Theodore Zeldin that speaks to this that goes, “When will the way we relate to each other catch up with developments in technology? For too long now we’ve lived with the mistaken notion that technology will solve our productivity problems. People get things done via coordination of action, not technology. Hence the focus on improving our interactions.
Here’s what Bob told me:
“My promise is that those who actively get involved will experience what I call transformation. They will be thinking about their thinking and observing their observations. Participants will have a new perspective or frame of reference, literally a new place to look from regarding their work. And, they’ll have proven tools to make this perspective work in their demanding role of producer. Anything less than this is quite frankly a waste of time. Simply adding the du jour ’silver bullet of the month’ won’t get us there.”
